What changed

The US Consumer Product Safety Commission posted recall 26-524 on 2026-06-04 for Wyze Solar Cam Pan security cameras, model WYZESCPWH, a wire-free white pan-and-tilt camera with a built-in solar panel. The hazard, word for word: “The recalled Wyze Solar Cam Pan security cameras’ incorrect assembly instructions can lead consumers to accidentally puncture the lithium ion battery’s metal casing, causing the battery to rapidly overheat, posing a risk of serious injury or property damage from fire and burn hazards.”

Wyze had 13 reports of the cameras overheating, and six of them exploding and catching fire, including six reports of minor burns, per the notice. They were sold at Home Depot, Micro Center and online from October 2025 through April 2026 for about $80.

Who it affects

Anyone with a Wyze Solar Cam Pan, model WYZESCPWH. The notice says everyone who used the long, flat-head screw to install the solar panel on top of the camera should take part. Solar cameras are common on farms at gates, sheds and coops where there’s no outlet.

What it means for your setup

A solar battery camera mounted on a wooden barn wall or a hay shed is exactly where a battery fire does the most harm. Take this one down if it’s yours.

If you replace it, the method doesn’t change: a solar Wi-Fi camera needs a strong signal where it’s mounted, and a spot with no Wi-Fi needs a bridge, a cable or an LTE camera instead. Our gate and well cameras guide covers the choice. Wyze cameras connect through Wyze’s cloud, which works behind Starlink’s CGNAT; see which cameras work.

What to do now

  • From the CPSC notice, word for word: “Consumers should stop using the recalled Wyze Solar Cam Pan security camera immediately and visit http://www.wyze.com/SCPrecall to determine whether your device is affected by the recall.”
  • Also from the notice: “Do not throw this recalled camera with lithium-ion battery in the trash, the general recycling stream (e.g., street-level or curbside recycling bins), or used battery recycling boxes found at various retail and home improvement stores.” Ask your household hazardous waste center first.
