How we check what we publish
Updated Works with any internet provider at the house.
Sources and labels
Every fact on the site lives in one data file with its source and the date we checked it. Each has a label:
- official: Read on the standards body, maker, Starlink or government page itself.
- official-snippet: That page's own wording, read in search results because the page renders only with JavaScript or would not load. Hand-check before launch.
- secondary: A reputable secondary source (encyclopedia, trade press, retailer).
- unverified: No source settles it, or sources conflict. Never shown as a number.
Facts are re-checked at least every 35 days; the site’s own tests fail the build if any are older.
How we price parts
US retail list prices seen on Oct 5, 2026, before tax and shipping. "page" = read on the retailer/maker page; "snippet" = read in search results because the page blocked us or loads prices with JavaScript. Ranges cover the examples listed. Prices change often: the site shows the date on every figure.
- Each part shows a low–high range across the example models we looked at, not one store’s price.
- Totals add only priced lines. Anything we couldn’t price is listed and counted, never guessed.
- Prices are re-checked at least every 30 days.
Safety
- Every page about trenching, grounding or power says when to call 811 and when to use a licensed electrician.
- We don’t give electrical code rulings. Where code applies, we say “ask your inspector or electrician”.
First-hand claims
“We tested” appears only for tests the owner actually ran, labeled “owner-run test at home, not on a farm”. No invented people, quotes, reviews or farm stories.
News
A news post needs a linkable source for a change: a maker or retailer page, a Starlink or FCC page, or a government recall notice. No rumors, no single forum posts. Quiet months get a changelog line instead of a post.
Corrections
Errors are fixed as soon as we confirm them and logged on the corrections page with the date.
