What changed
Tesla North reported that a Starlink email it received on 2026-10-02 listed the Mini kit at $149. It called that $100 below the “typical $249 price.” A Basenor post dated 2026-10-01 gives the same $149 but calls the old price $199. Earlier this year the Mini did sell for $199: Drive Tesla Canada reported that price in January 2026, and Mobile Internet Resource Center listed it at $199 in July.
Tesla North says the email gave no end date and noted that “price and availability may vary.” We could not read starlink.com’s order page with our tools, so this post rests on press reports.
| Item | Before | After | Source date |
|---|---|---|---|
| Starlink Mini kit, US | $249 (Tesla North) or $199 (Basenor); sources differ | $149 | 2026-10-02 |
| Mini monthly payments | $16/mo for 12 months (from July 2026) | $12.41/mo for 12 months (Basenor) | 2026-10-01 |
| Roam plans needed to use it | Roam 100GB $55, 300GB $80 | Unchanged, per Basenor | 2026-10-01 |
Who it affects
Anyone thinking about a portable test on land they might buy. Our test-before-you-buy guide puts the Mini plus a power source as the paid step, after the free checks. A lower kit price makes that step cheaper. It does not change the free steps that come first.
It also matters if you want a second, movable dish for a far pasture or a shop. The Mini runs on a Roam plan, not on your house’s Residential line.
What it means for your setup
The land test math gets cheaper by the drop in kit price, and Starlink’s 30-day return window on starlink.com orders still applies. The property checklist still starts with the sky check in the Starlink app, which needs no kit at all.
One thing has not changed: the kit is only half the cost. You still need a Roam plan for the month you test. Basenor reports Roam 100GB at $55 and Roam 300GB at $80, the same as after June’s price change.
What to do now
- Do the free checks first: Starlink app sky scan at the dish spot, phone signal by carrier, and the FCC map.
- If you still need a hands-on test, check the Mini price on starlink.com on the day you order. Reports disagree on what the old price was, so don’t count on a fixed saving.
- Note the return date if you buy for a test. Starlink’s window for starlink.com orders is 30 days.
What stays the same
- The Mini’s power needs and single Ethernet port.
- You still need a Roam plan to use the Mini.
- The order of the land test: free checks first, paid test only if still unsure.
What we don’t know yet
- Whether $149 is a lasting list price or a temporary one. The email gave no end date.
- What the “regular” price was. Tesla North says $249, Basenor says $199.
- Whether a new Mini model is coming. SatelliteInternet.com reports one has been teased, but nothing is confirmed.
