Planner
Plan the link to each building
Five questions per building. You get a method, a parts list with dated prices, and what needs an electrician. Nothing personal: no address, no map.
Prices checked Works with any internet provider at the house.
Your plan shows up here
Enter a distance and press Show my method and parts. Not sure about an answer? Pick “Not sure”: the planner picks the safe option and tells you what to check.
How the planner decides
- Copper first, if it fits. If you can dig and the cable route (distance + about 10% for bends + a loop at each end) is under 328 ft, it’s buried Cat6. Conduit unless you said “keep it cheap”.
- Fiber for long trenches. If you can dig but copper won’t reach, it’s fiber with a media converter at each end.
- A bridge when you can’t dig. If the two spots can see each other (or you’re not sure yet), it’s a point-to-point bridge, long-range radios past 1,000 ft.
- LTE for a lone camera. Only cameras or sensors, no grid power and good phone signal: an LTE camera with its own data.
- Around the obstacle, or a separate connection. Blocked and no digging: a relay hop, or for a second household, its own service.
Every result lists the alternatives it considered and when the chosen method is the wrong one. Prices are retail ranges for the example models, checked on the date shown. See how we price parts.
Questions people ask
What will the parts cost?
The planner adds up the priced lines for each building and shows a low–high range from the retail prices we checked, with the date. Anything we couldn’t price, like a mast or a trencher rental, is listed and counted, never guessed. Tax and shipping aren’t included.
Do you store what I enter?
No. The planner runs in your browser. It never asks for an address, a name or a map. The share link holds only the numbers and options you picked.
Does it matter which internet provider I have?
No. The link from the house router to the other buildings is your own network. It works the same with fiber, cable, fixed wireless or satellite.
Why does 300 ft come out as fiber, not Cat6?
Copper Ethernet is limited to 328 ft (100 m) for the whole run. The planner adds about 10% for bends plus a service loop at each end, so a 300 ft walk is about 350 ft of cable. That’s over the limit.
