Card: CPSC recall 26-407 on 2026-04-16. About 149,400 Generac portable generators (GP3600 to GP9500ETF, limited serial range). Fuel can leak from the carburetor on first fill. Check the model and serial number on generac.com.

What changed

The US Consumer Product Safety Commission posted recall 26-407 on 2026-04-16 for certain Generac portable generators with an orange and black cover in a steel-tube cradle. The hazard, word for word: “When first filling the recalled generator with gasoline, fuel can leak from the carburetor, posing a risk of serious injury or death from fire or burn hazard. Consumers with generators that have previously been filled with enough gasoline to move the gauge off “E,” or have been used without any gasoline leakage, can continue to be used.”

The recall lists these unit types and model numbers, within a limited serial range: GP3600 (G0077210), GP4000DF (G0081550), GP6500 (G0076802, G0076722), GP6500E (G0077130), GP6500EDF (G0081530), GP6700EDF (G0080620), GP8000E (G0077150, G0076754, G0081540), GP9200E (G0079712) and GP9500ETF (G0080630). They were sold at Home Depot, Lowe’s and other stores and online from May 2025 through February 2026. Generac had 114 reports of fuel leaks and no injuries, per the notice.

Who it affects

Anyone who bought a Generac portable generator from May 2025 through February 2026, including farms that keep one to run the house, a well pump or barn gear in an outage. Only units in the limited serial range are included; the model number alone doesn’t settle it.

What it means for your setup

Many farms run the router, the bridge and the barn switch off a generator during a long outage. If yours is a new Generac that hasn’t been fueled yet, check it before the next storm, not during it.

The network side doesn’t change. Run network gear from a properly connected generator, never by backfeeding through an outlet. A small UPS on the router and the bridge’s PoE injector rides through the switchover. Our storms page covers surge protection on long runs when power comes and goes.

What to do now

  • From the CPSC notice, word for word: “Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled Generac portable generator and go to https://www.generac.com/about/recalls/GP-Carburetor to check to see if your model and serial number are included in this recall.”
  • Also from the notice: “If your unit is included in the recall and has either not yet been filled with fuel or exhibited leakage after fueling as described above, please contact your dealer to arrange for free repair at the dealer’s location.”
  • Generac contact, per the notice: 800-396-9951, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. CT, Monday through Friday.

What stays the same

  • Generac portable generators outside the listed models and serial range.
  • Generators that have already been filled past “E” or used without leaking, which the notice says can continue to be used.

What we don’t know yet

  • The exact serial range. Generac’s lookup page is the only place to check it.
